Meet Amanda

Amanda Black is the owner and artist behind Black Loon Studio.  She runs the print studio out of her home near St. Paul, Minnesota.  The summer months have always been spent camping at state parks or visiting lakeside cabins.  Enjoying outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, campfires, and simply reading in the sunshine have become a peaceful escape from busy weekday life.  These experiences also fuel the print designs which are rooted in nature.

Amanda graduated with a BFA in studio art with an emphasis on photography.  She uses her photographs as well as photos passed down to her from family members as inspiration for print designs.  Prints offered by Black Loon Studio are created by hand one at a time.  Each print begins as a sketch, is carved out of linoleum using various hand tools, and printed onto paper that has been torn to size.  This process creates exceptional eye-catching art for your home.  It is this tactile nature of printmaking that initially drew Amanda to the art form.

Together with her husband, Amanda is raising two energetic and inquisitive children.  She enjoys hiking during the summer months.  Taking advantage of the many state parks in Minnesota as well as exploring trails around her home.  Amanda uses this time to refresh in the sun’s warm rays. As a life-long creative, Amanda also spends her free time experimenting with other mediums.  She’s never met a craft she wouldn’t try and enjoys revisiting some of these skills with her children.
